The way we experienced Hvar is far, FAR off from the reputation it seems to have. We didn’t learn until well into our stay that Hvar is known to be the ‘party island’. It’s easy to see why that would be true. It’s beautiful, home to many luxury hotels, gorgeous people and million dollar yachts docking in the harbour at all hours of the day. Our schedules have us shooting sunrise to sunset and missing out on the late night parties, but in a way is also a blessing. I don’t think that if I had known what to expect ahead of time my experience would have been as positive as it was. I fell in love with Hvar as a place where I could relax, take in the Croatian culture and new experiences at every turn. It’s not often that we get to explore places from square one. With images popping up on our social media 24/7 there is little left to the imagination. Yet Croatia proved to be a complete shot in the dark for us. All we’ve ever heard was how beautiful it was. Despite of peoples varying opinions and tastes Croatia is very universally loved. Croatian beaches, as it turns out, are not so much beaches at all but rocky cliffs, ones that make for incredible photos but also make it harder for a relaxing day by the water, interesting none the less, and they definitely have their charm, and are 100% THE most beautiful, no doubt about that.

Bonj 'les bains' looks like luxury you only read about in a Greek legend and we really wanted a taste

We got to experience a relaxing day by the water in an entirely different way while on Hvar, however. Just down the hill from our hotel (more on that later) was a beach club that caught our eye immediately. Bonj ‘les bains’ looks like luxury you only read about in a Greek legend and we really wanted a taste. We felt like we deserved this treat and splurged on a whole deck with a sunbed and private access to the water, which I’m scared to even admit cost something around $400 Euro… for half a day!! GULP! But YOLO, and I tell ya! To live like kings! Private deck, with a bottle of champagne, fresh island fruit and the most beautiful water. The more people of course, the more cost effective it becomes, but alas, it was just the two of us and experiences like this are worth every penny, or in our case, every photo. To book your day at the club visit their website. Our visit set a wonderful tone for the whole trip, though nothing else compared in cost, thankfully. It made this my serene escape from the rest of the world, even if just for a few hours. For the next three weeks we fell in love with every place we visited and each became our new favourite. Although I have to say Hvar will definitely remain at the top of that list for a long long time. xoxo
