summer 2012 is the season of british style. For the second summer running, the eyes of the world will be focused on the uk and its residents as we celebrate another royal occasion with the queen’s diamond jubilee – and then open up our doors to play host to the 30th olympic games.

following the lavish celebrations around the royal wedding in 2011, the world expects big things from britain this year. luckily, our newest duchess is still representing us well in the style stakes with her devotion to home-grown fashion designers and her exemplary eye for detail.
kate middleton turned up to an appearance at the imperial war museum recently looking stunning in a creation from British designer amanda wakeley – a label she has favoured strongly in her first year of royal duties. her appreciation may be due to the label’s stylish range of tunic and tea dresses, which suit her slight figure. her wedding dress also gave the nod to uk fashion, having been designed by sarah burton, creative director for alexander mcqueen.
brits are hoping that the olympics will present an opportunity to further showcase our legendary sense of style with athletes’ clothing being designed by stella mccartney in collaboration with adidas. the predominantly blue and white kits are inspired by the nation’s union jack flag. “something that was very important to me was to try and use that very iconic image but to dismantle it and try to soften it, break it down and make it more fashionable in a sense”, says mccartney.
but the real fashion story will be with the people of britain themselves. london’s residents are thought to be among the most stylish in the world, and it’s a sure bet that there will be a sophisticated selection of summer dresses and stylish warm weather clothing on display while the capital hosts the olympic games.
if you’re looking for a few must-have fashion pieces for summer, you’ll find everything from glamorous gladiator sandals to casual day dresses online at very.co.uk – so why not check out the range and inject a bit of sunshine into your wardrobe?
