When you live in Canada you often hear people complain about winter, to be honest, up to about a year ago I was totally one of those people but I can tell you exactly what happened to turn it all around for me. In a nut shell it was the discovery of cute winter outfits… naturally. We were invited to go on a ski trip and had to quickly come up with something to shoot, a James Bond movie and a trip to Sporting Life later and I was a convert. To sweeten the deal, I quickly realized all the things I have been missing out on, up till now, by hiding away from the cold weather. I mean, Canada is full of magic during the winter months. Frozen waterfalls, spruce trees blanketed with beautiful soft snow, skiing some of the best mountains in the world, dog sledding, sleigh rides and all the most luxury experiences that make you feel like Russian nobility… all you have to do is dress the part! Another example of how the right outfit can change your whole experience. In the age of instagram, the promise of creating the perfect memory could be just the motivation you need to slip into those warm layers and head outside.
This winter we decided to take advantage of this beautiful place we call home and experience as much as we can before the snow melts. In the middle of our regular scheduled trips we are taking the time to take a few days in between flights to drive out to the mountains and explore. Our first stop of 2018 was Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff. It seemed like a great place to start, it’s a destination we know well, only an hour and a half away from Calgary and accessible without much planning. And what a perfect getaway it ended up being. The Lodge itself is tucked away in a corner of town we have never been to before, making it a rather private ad quiet location, overlooking the peak of Mount Rundle, or so I’m guessing based on our location. Staying at a mountain lodge generally means you will get some much needed relaxation, a soak in the hot tub after a day of hiking or a quiet evening by the fireplace, but the one thing you get to look forward to when staying at a Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts property is the food. Hands down some of the best steak you will ever eat and the bread… what can I say. If you have been following our stories from the Granary Road market this holiday season you already know all about The Loft bakery, which is the source for all this mouth watering goodness. So even if you don’t get a chance to get out this winter do yourself a favour and go grab yourself a loaf of bread, you will not be disappointed.

I liked how the article talked about how staying in a mountain lodge means that you will get some much-needed relaxation. My family and I have been planning on going on vacation up in the mountains, and we have been thinking about renting a log cabin or staying in an inn up near a resort. It would be great to stay in a place that has amenities that my entire family can enjoy so we can relax.
