i have been struggling with my skin for the past few months, trying to restore its healthy natural glow. i have been reading books and have added some products to my skin care regime, but i am yet to find results that stick. through these efforts, i am hoping to find the magic solution to my problem with oily skin and breakouts, and hope that my journey can be helpful to some of you who are going through similar issues.
i find that, more often than not, the breakouts i experience emanate from the inside out. at the top of my reading list is ‘skin cleanse’ by adina grigore. many of you asked me to review this book on the blog. the truth is that a successful skincare regime needs to be unique to an individual, just like a thumbprint. our skin is an organ that needs to be constantly maintained to perform at its top potential. where we come from, what we ate as a child and where we are now all factor into the decisions we should be making about how we take care of our skin. and let me tell you, i still have a lot of learning to do. i always thought that moving from humidity to the dry prairies had something to do with my constant battle with breakouts. then i realized it was a little more internal than that. hormones play a big role in how our skin behaves and it’s our job to prevent breakouts by maintaining a sufficient balance. to do that, we should be looking to our diet. we have been trying to eat very clean, which basically, to me, means no oils or saturated fats. my skin is definitely on the more oily side and anything i ingest that is going to make it work overtime gives me a shine (note, not a glow). avocado has been my best friend.
eating well is of course not always the only solution. cleansing and taking off makeup at the end of each day is an equally important part of my routine. i make sure that i always go to bed with a clean face and i mean it; EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. no matter how tired i am, i will drag myself to the bathroom and cleanse. i started using my cleansing brush religiously. there is a korean face mask i swear by. i leave it on overnight every few days to hydrate my skin. and then there are my creams. i find that changing up your product really helps. i find proof of that every time i dive into learning more about it. your skin gets used to products and something that worked 3 months ago might not be working now. it’s important to monitor the results closely to know when to make the switch. i am in the midst of making that move right now and have had the opportunity to try the new biotherm aquasource as my next candidate.
how did it pan out for me? i have only given it a week. self diagnosing my skin is hard to do right now due to our busy travel schedule. the constant back and forth from one climate to another makes it hard to see the desirable results. the texture and the ingredients are promising. the cream goes on smooth and is reminiscent of a gel i really liked when i was in asia. there are two versions of the product, for dry and combination skin. i chose the dry skin forumla and am looking forward to using it on a day in the la sun. it will feel very soothing to put it on before being exposed to the elements. the boost of concentration of their main ingredient, the life plankton promises to regenerate your skin cells more quickly. apply before heading out the door in the morning and see the hydration last until your bedtime routine.
i would love to hear more about your experiences with switching products and looking for that perfect match. how do you take care of your skin? xoxo
