The feature that got me jumping in my seat was the rearview display screen. That's right, not a mirror, but a wide rear view camera to show you everything happening behind you.

This is a very special entry in more ways than one. It’s a documentation of one of the funnest trips to the east coast I’ve done to date AND it was shot by someone other than Tyler (!!!), which, for me, is a HUGE deal, but more on that later.

We were invited to join the Chevrolet team on a glamping excursion to Nova Scotia and when I hear anything about the east coast my automatic reaction is that of enthusiasm and anticipation. Two words: SEA FOOD! Our schedules were really tight so we opted to fly out to Toronto the day before so we could have more time on the ground at our destination the next day (VERY important when your job involves taking photos). But before any of this could happen I needed to find an actual photographer. This is a historical moment since the blog is our baby. Tyler has been taking photos of me exclusively until now, but with scheduling conflicts and other projects our dates did not align. To be honest I was really nervous because I don’t readily trust other people to do the job Tyler has perfected over the years, plus he is so talented <3, but as it turns out I had nothing to worry about. I asked Allison to join me on the trip, to which she was readily available and excited (the attitude I myself adopt and look for in people I work with).

Our rides for the trip were the newest Chevrolet Traverse models, the entire lineup of cars was waiting for us at the Moncton airport in New Brunswick. We jumped into our white, fully loaded Traverse and were on our way. Because time was of essence we skipped lunch and got straight to shooting, stopping at every photogenic spot we could find. Fall is out in full force on the east coast, with rich colours lining our way to the camp ground. One of the first things I noticed when we got into the car was the insanely good GPS. Allison and I didn’t just have to get used to working together but travelling together for the first time too. I’m feeling really grateful for her tech savy because GPS was up and running before I could even realize something was missing. The system gives you upcoming directions before you get to your turn and indicates your ETA at the bottom of the screen, literally never to be lost again. The feature that got me jumping in my seat was the rearview display screen. That’s right, not a mirror, but a wide rear view camera to show you everything happening behind you. I had a trippy little moment when I looked in the rearview mirror and didn’t see myself. You quickly realize how much time driving you actually spend checking yourself out in the mirror, ha! The vanity! For those of you who find it hard to adjust or need the mirror to, for example check on your kids in the back seat, you can easily flip the screen back between the two to meet your needs. The new models also have built in Wi-Fi and car play, which will quickly become your new standard for all vehicles. In fact I’m typing this in my own car right now wishing I didn’t have to use my phone as a hot spot. Le sigh!

Even though I started driving in a regular sedan (Chevy Cavalier was actually my very first car), I have really grown to love big SUV vehicles over the years. For someone as tall as me it’s really all about comfort, stepping out of your vehicle with the added height is a treat. I also find it hard sometimes to pose next to smaller sports cars because they make me look even bigger than I am, the Traverse SERIOUSLY minimizes that problem. Even compared to other SUVs this car made me actually feel small (see the photos of me sitting in the trunk). With three row seating this vehicle is perfect for transporting basically any part of your life, making it also, the ultimate adventure vehicle. I love how much space there is, so much, in fact, that if during your camping trip you happen to feel too cold to sleep in a tent, you can just set up camp inside your car!! I mean, who hasn’t opted out for that option at least once in the past?

Our camp site was like something out of a Wes Anderson movie, set up by East Coast Glamping, and ready for us to take on our adventure. Located right on the Bay of Fundy (think lowest and highest tides in the world), we had an opportunity to see the ocean literally emptying up the entire bay within hours (see photos of it at sunrise and then again at 1PM). SO crazy! While the camp was enjoying evening cocktails we snuck around everyones tents to see the cute decor that was different in every one before we joined them to sample some delicious local wine and cheeses (YUM!). Usually when we travel we keep our fingers crossed for good weather because nearly every time we encounter some kind of obstacle but this time we couldn’t have asked for more perfect skies. The sunset was breathtaking and we spent it overlooking the cliffs of Cape d’Or and eating lobster!

We took some time the next morning to explore the beautiful Chignecto Provincial Park, in truth we just spent most of the time on the beach admiring the views, one of my favourite parts of Nova Scotia are the beaches. Unlike anywhere we usually go to enjoy the water the beaches here are rockier and the water rougher, they are much more suited for enjoying from a distance but it’s still a lot of fun wearing rain boots and walking right into the freezing water, just to say you did it! Another really iconic thing about Nova Scotia are it’s lighthouses and we did a quick little tour while on the way back to Halifax to catch our flight. Thank goodness for the Chevy team for organizing these points of interest for us, saving us research and potential trial and error. I was really sad to be leaving so quickly. This is the opportunity for us to have real human contact and we always luck out with such amazing groups of people, not to mention end up in the most beautiful places in the world, driving the most coveted cars. Sometimes it really is like waking up from the most wonderful dream. And this time it might even end with us buying a new car! Stay tuned. xoxo
