what a crazy, fun week! i can’t believe we are already in toronto waiting for fashion week to start when just a few days ago we were getting ready to attend the exclusive launch of the alexander wang for h&m collaboration. firstly i just want to say what a great honour it was for h&m to reach out and extend the invitation to join the canadian team in new york for this, truly once in a lifetime event. for those of you who have been following the blog for a while you know my obsession with alexander wang runs deep, as in the case, with pretty much every blogger out there and a favourite among many, this was, and will be one of the most highly anticipated collaborations to date.
a group of us landed in new york on october 15th to a late get-together dinner and quick hellos. the soho grand became the two day hub for bloggers from all around the world, joined for one of the biggest events of the year. on october 16th, after a day of exploring (light shopping… and pre-shopping the first & other stories store in north america), we headed down to the famous red rooster harlem restaurant for some pre-show eats and more bonding, this time meeting part of the lovely team from the coveteur. for those who, like me, were not aware, they are, yes! canadian! after splitting up into a couple taxis, we then headed straight for the armoury on the hudson, where an indoor track was transformed into a fashion arena that became the stage for a free runner’s set of a parkour performance to open the highly anticipated show. joan smalls, karlie kloss and natasha poly rocked the runway, makeup free and game ready wearing reflective puffy jackets, black metal helmets, wrestling caps and even carrying hockey sticks. if i ever second guessed myself about this collection, now i am a convert. the technical sportswear is accompanied by a curated selection of beautiful objects in the true alexander wang aesthetic. black embossed towels, boxing gloves, trophy cups and water bottles all embody the message of the collection. directly after wang’s final run around the track the guests were invited backstage to shop. my hopes of a more relaxed shopping atmosphere were quickly crushed. fashion fans are very dedicated, what can i say. in the midst of our shop-on, a guest performance by missy elliot started on the other side of the curtain. i only got a few glimpses onto the stage, concentrating my full energy on snagging everything on my wish list. not everyone can say that they shopped to a live set of ‘get ya freak on’, so at least there’s that. diplo followed with a dj set to close the night.
